Medication Expertise

Pharmacists are medication experts. Their role within the health care system is to optimize drug therapy. In other words, pharmacists work with their patients and with other health-care professionals to ensure that medications are used appropriately, to maximize the effectiveness of medications, and to minimize adverse reactions and drug interactions.

This role is extremely important. Drug expenditures were estimated at more than $27 billion in Canada in 2008. It is believed that somewhere between $2 billion and $9 billion was spent managing problems arising from the inappropriate use of medications, side effects from medications, or drug interactions. Talking in detail with your pharmacist about your medications can help you avoid becoming a part of this statistic.

Depending on your medical and medication history, the cost of this cosultation may be covered by the Ontario government. Please click here for details. You can still book an apopintment with the pharmacist if you don't qualify for the MedsCheck program. Please refer to our fee schedule.
